Welcome to the Metropolitan Musuem of Art's media hub. This site features two galleries of some of the works in the museum's permanent collection. All images are sources from the museum's open source API.
The Metropolitan Musuem fifth avenue location is displayed thanks to the Google Maps API. The museum has three locations, The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuers, and The Met Cloisters.
By using the Twitter API, we are able to see live tweets about a specific topic, hashtag, user etc. In this demo, we're displaying tweets that mention #metmuseum.
We coded a server that reads tweet data from the API and writes a json file. The data is sent to a Google storage bucket and served through heroku. The data is rewritten and restored every ten minutes to display current tweets to the webpage.
This website serves as the final project of a semester in MEJO 487: Intermediate Interactive Media in the Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
The course focused on effective digital storytelling with the use of modern web programming and good design.
The project utilized the Metropolitan Musuem's image API and guide, slick, Google Maps API, Twitter API and guide.
